NORMANDY GITES AND BED AND BREAKFAST - GUESTBOOK | |||||||
|
|||||||
I would like to say a big thank you to all of the guests that haven chosen to stay with us here at Orchard Gites. Below are some of the comments that have been left by previous guests, I would like to thank them for their kindness and the time they have spent. Meeting Alison was one of the highlights of our road-trip through France. She welcomed us in her cosy home in the middle of the countryside. We spent a lovely time talking to Alison around the fireplace, playing with her dog and enjoying the delicious food. She is a great host and we would love to meet her again. Thank you Alison for this experience! (B&B) Ben, Brussels Moment très agréable. Alison est très accueillante et chaleureuse. Chambre confortable et irréprochable. Petit déjeuner excellent. A recommander. Une autre fois peut être, si l'occasion se présente. Echange avec Alison sympathique, intéressant et varié. (B&B) Alain, Coutance Staying with Alison was a wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone staying in Normandy. We enjoyed tea, scones, a lit fireplace and her wonderful dog upon arrival. The bed was so comfortable and we had a private bath, what more does one need while traveling? I hope to stay with her again! (B&B) Elizabeth, Seattle Orchard Gites are cosy cottages in a beautiful rural setting. Alison, the owner, is extremely welcoming and offers incredible art sessions during your stay, which make the most of the French countryside. A car is a must but some lovely visits are within quite a short drive away. We will definitely return next year. Wouter, Netherlands My Husband and I and our 2 dogs had a wonderful holiday at Orchard Gites. We stayed in Le Pressoir, overlooking the orchard. The views are beautiful. From the bedroom window the sunrises and sunsets were stunning. Alison and fudge made our stay extra special. The dogs had a great time playing ball with fudge in the orchard while we enjoyed the tranquility and the beautifully attended gardens. The local cider and produce is truly delicious. The location is fab for getting about, although we were so relaxed at the gite and enjoying the garden that we didn't go to far afield. I would recommend the gites to anyone. If you want to relax and do nothing or travel around Calvados, Orne or Manche it is truly a perfect place. We stayed for two weeks and didn't want to leave. Kelly and Brian, Wimbourne I felt at home as soon as I arrived at Alison’s and particularly enjoyed time spent in her garden. The weather was lovely and I was even able to have breakfast outside in the beautiful setting of a table set amongst the flowers. Alison was very welcoming and suggested a local walk which I was pleased to follow after having spent most of the day in the car. I definitely recommend Alison's as a great place to stay. (B&B) Martin and Sam, Cheltenham What a fabulous holiday we have just had. Our Gite was just perfect set in the rolling countryside. Alison was a wonderful hostess. Our accomadation was perfect. The location allowed us to travel all over Lower Normandy. This is a beautiful region with spectacular views and history...and we even made it to Paris. Thanks Alison for a really enjoable stay. We would recommend this area to anyone looking for a really superb holiday in France. Selina and David, Dublin We stayed for a week in La Cidreraie and it was absolutely super! The gite: the gite was perfect for a couple. It was very clean, comfortable and prettily decorated. We felt very at home and were happy to spend the evening there. The gite had everything we needed to cook etc. We especially appreciated the large and beautiful garden. The welcome: Alison was very welcoming and a superb host. When we contacted her to ask about renting the gite she was prompt to respond and very helpful. She sent detailed instructions for finding the gite. When we arrived there was a bottle of Normand cider and biscuits waiting for us. Throughout our stay she was incredibly helpful and friendly: not only did she suggest excellent places to walk/visit etc, but she also printed us out a map of a walk we planned to do. She could not have been more kind, giving us some vegetables from her garden as well as encouraging us to pick as many plums from her tree as we could eat! The area: the gite is in a very pretty and tranquil village and countryside. There was lots to do and see in the surrounding area, especially good walking routes. Thank you to Alison for such a lovely stay. We have already recommended this gite to family and friends and we would happily stay again! Elizabeth, London We stayed here last week for a short break. Alison [the lady who owns it], was waiting with a very warm welcome and had left us a bottle of cider and some local biscuits to enjoy. The gite is in a very rural setting but the directions Alison had given us were spot on and made the gite very easy to find. There are all the conveniences you need [fridge, cooker, kettle, toaster & microwave] but in a typically French kitchen. The bed was wonderful - when people say they float off to sleep, I now know what they mean!. if you want high-end luxury or a very English holiday home - don't bother going, but if you want typically French style in a lovely homely gite in a beautiful, tranquil setting [and we did], then this is the place for you and we would highly recommend it. Bed linen is charged extra [8 euros each] and electricity at 1euro per day - neither brakes the bank. A lovely little place [Alison has a larger gite next door] that is well worth a visit - would make for a romantic getaway. Amanda, Coventry Thank you, Alison, for making our stay so memorable. You have made your little patch of paradise truly beautiful and your suggestions for days out were all fab. The little extra touches made our holiday very special; jam, flowers, BBQ, veg from the garden…. And Fudge made us miss our own a little less – she is a great character. I really enjoyed my session of printmaking and expect to rekindle artistic pursuits. We love the are and will return one day. Jan and Rod, Herfordshire Set in the midst of lovely countryside, Orchard Gites is in a truly picturesque setting. Very peaceful but with lots of interesting little towns and villages to explore, a really good place to enjoy France untouched by tourism. Our hostess Alison could not have been more helpful in finding places for us to visit in our three weeks there, together with the local fairs etc. Easy driving all around and the beaches were only an hour away, should you want the seaside as well. All in all we could not fault it and would recommend this lovely hideway to anyone wanting peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. Thanks Alison and Fudge for making our stay so enjoyable. Dee and David, Tormarton Me and my wife Ira came for just one night. Right away we realized this place is a real gem and concluded we should definitely revisit it again for a longer period.. The apple trees are everywhere, plus a lovely pumpkin patch and a productive vegetable garden that together make the atmosphere :) At night you can see the Milky-Way galaxy and hear nothing. The bed was comfy and everything proper. A++ (B&B) Ramon and Ira, Paris A fantastic week spent staying in La Cidreraie, one of 3 gites here. The owner, Alison, could not have been more helpful, and extended a fantastic welcome with Coffee and Cakes. Ideally situated for touring Normandy. We travelled by motorcycle and the location is ideal for safely parking the bike. All in all a great experience, with the added bonus of great weather too. We will be back!! Rob and Di Bright, East Grinstead We have just got back from a six night stay at Orchard Gites. Having read the other reviews we can only re-iterate what they all say. Alison was fantastic, always really helpful with local maps and suggestions of where to go locally to sightsee and shop, nothing was too much trouble. We went out on our bikes most days and the local views are superb - just watch for going up the hills! Wonderful location very quiet and peaceful - we enjoyed our evening meals outside every evening with Fudge the cheeky terrier ever present as company! Accommodation was clean and tidy with a real homely feel to it. Thanks to Alison for making us so welcome. Thoroughly recommend a stay here. Jeremy and Rebecca, Bedford Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday. This was my first solo trip abroad but I had nothing to worry about. The drive from Calais was easy, even paying the tolls wasn’t a problem. La Cidreraie was a dream to stay, so cosy even in November. One week was not enough with the lovely walks, the bird watching the towns to explore not to mention all the wonderful crafts you showed me in your lovely house. You make a mean lemon drizzle cake and the pumpkin soup was to die for. I have been well and truly spoilt all week. Celia, Bedfordshire We have just returned home to Tasmania after 7 weeks holidaying in France. Alison and her border terrier "Fudge" won our hearts. Alison claimed the prize (hand carved bird) for her genuine warmth, exceptional travel tips and guidance. The location of Orchard Gites is stunning, the apple orchard was in blossom when we stayed and the surrounding verdant countryside was breathtakingly beautiful. Our week was not long enough, with a fabulous art workshop conducted by Alison, trips to Vire, Villedieu les Poeles, Granville and Genets. Alison helped us to find the locations of vide grenier markets, a charming local garden show in a private garden, the weekly market in Flers, walks in Suisse Normande forests and shopping in Tinchebray. There were still many more attractions we did not have time to see, so a return is inevitable. Suzanne and Chris, Launceston, Tasmania |
